Rant About Drivers

You know when I was a young driver I thought it was my right to drive. That was an immature way to think. Now that I'm older and wiser, I'd like to think I've learned a thing or two. Ego was a big factor in this belief about myself and I'm sure it is with a lot of drivers. You drive around thinking that everyone is on the road just to piss you off, slow you down or just plain get in your way. The reason I'm bringing this up is because I was just watching drivers around me this afternoon when I was stuck in rush hour traffic. I always position myself in the lane of least resistance or the one that's not in the lane next to people coming on and off the highway. I stay in this lane as long as I can, basically to stay out of other drivers way. It works for me and generally not much trouble occurs. Except for the occasional impatient driver, which brings me back to my point. I noticed there's drivers like me who stick in one lane till they get to their exit and there's people who get impatient and weave through traffic. Then there is another type, the one who reminds me of Goofy in his cartoon about driving. You know the one. The one when he's like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. These drivers speed through traffic doing illegal lane changes, driving on the shoulder and making everyone around them very nervous. My immediate thought was man you need to look ahead, realize what time of day it is, relax and accept that getting home is going to take five or ten minutes longer. I just look at these people and think you're an accident waiting to happen. I truly fear for them and their potential victims.               I went through a stage in my driving history that I feared driving. It was after I had an accident skidding on some ice on the highway. Luckily I didn't hit anyone but I could have and that was the point when I decided it was time to stop taking risks.
I got over my fear and got my confidence back but now I respect the road, the weather conditions and the traffic around me.

To all my lovely readers this holiday season please be respectful of all the other drivers around you and think that there's people in those cars and they have families who would like them to come home safe and sound. Just like you.
